Over the course of equipment modernization is an ideal time to also introduce automation capabilities that link port equipment to the terminal’s central computer system. Once connected, new levels of reliability, productivity, and safety become possible.
These are among the more popular enhancements:
- Position Determination System and auto-steering. RTG automatically captures container location information during loading and unloading from differential GPS satellite. Updated container position information is transmitted automatically to the Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) via wireless.
- Crane Management System Software (CMS). One-stop crane diagnostic software monitors crane activity and conducts ‘real time’ troubleshooting and problem identification.
- Remote Crane Management System (RCMS) ‘talks’ to the CMS of various cranes either by wireless or through cables. From this information, performance of equipment and crane operator can be analysed and trends can be identified.
- Laser Collision Avoidance System continuously detects and calculates the speed and trajectory of fixed and moving objects in the yard, reducing the potential for collisions and downtime.
