What is Container Number Optical Character Recognition (OCR) System ?

Container Number OCR system is a container terminal gate processing system, ideally suited for capturing, recognition and recording of container numbers together with the truck license plate numbers. The system typically comprises a Triggering System, Capturing System, Recognition Software and Database for storage of images. The OCR System is normally integrated to the CTMS for verification and update of container number coming into and out of the terminal.

Features and benefit of Container Number OCR System

  • Increases efficiency and throughput at the container terminal gates and quay cranes by processing images at less than 1 second per image.
  • Facilitates automation of terminal, depot and/or vessel operations.
  • Improves terminal entrance and exit security, by providing 24-hour non-stop container number recognition.
  • Reduces operating costs by facilitating real-time global tracking and tracing of containers.
  • Enhances and facilitates terminal's operations through consistent performance.
  • Container ID numbers, ISO codes and chassis numbers reading on both moving and stationary containers.
  • Automatic real-time recognition, recording and verification of container ID numbers.
  • Intelligent character recognition regardless of image source quality - image source may be partially distorted by rust, mud, peeling paint, fading colours and/or uneven lighting conditions.

Quay Crane OCR System – This system is installed on the Quay Crane so that containers from ship to shore and vice-versa can be captured and recognised automatically during the onloading or loading processes. This is an ideal solution for verifying container numbers which can be checked against the CTMS’ database to ensure the containers are loaded and unloaded correctly and efficiently, hence minimizing human errors.

Container Damage Inspection (CDI) System - The objective of the CDI System is to record the container surface into high-resolution images so that the operator can investigate if there are damages on the container surfaces, offline. The system is installed at the in/out gate or gantry so that the four surfaces (the Left, right, top & rear side) of the container are to be captured and logged.

As high-resolution images of the container surfaces are captured, the CDI system, combined with the Container Number Recognition System, provide the container number recognition system together with the damage inspection capability.
