What is Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS)
VTMS is a real-time software that helps port operators manage the vessels in port waters. The scalable VTMS provides safe navigational services to vessels at the port and can be enhanced to form a Command Centre for Crisis Management Operations such as SAR, oil spill detection and anti-terrorist activities.
Functions of VTMS
- Provide vessel traffic information and navigational information
- Monitoring of shipping lanes and separation scheme to enforce compliance of safe navigation regulations
- Protection of vessels carrying harzadous cargoes
- Assistance to Coast Guard and other Authorities
- Command Centre for SAR or other applications
- Detection of oil spill
- Improve overall port efficiency
- Scalability allows small ports to start with a simple VTMS system and can be scaled up in future while maintaining the same backbone infrastructure
Key Features of VTMS
- High performance navigation radar system for target detection (up to 2000 targets per radar, oil spill detection, 3D, etc.)
- PC-based radar target extractor and tracker for multiple targets, our of heavy clutter area with low false alarm rates
- Multi-sensor tracker function to correlate tracks in areas with overlapping radar coverage
- GPS unit for accurate positioning
- Vessel/vehicle transponder (AIS, Mobile-T, etc.)
- Radio communication on IP
- Digital CCTV on IP
- Metrological sensors
- RF Directional Finder
- Recording and playback function
