Indo Log & PT Serbaguna Terminal Achieve Triple Certifications
15th August 2018
Portek subsidiaries PT Indo Log (“PTIL”) and PT Serbaguna Terminal (“PTST”) are pleased to announce that they have achieved certifications in ISO 9001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2015. The certificates were presented to them by a representative from Accredited Certification Management (ACM), Indonesia on 2nd August 2018.
PTIL and PTST were independently assessed and were compliant with the requirements of the 3 international standards for the following scope of activities:
PTIL – Service and maintenance of port equipment
PTST – Operational and maintenance loading & discharging container services
ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a Quality Management System where an organisation needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Occupational Health & Safety OHSAS 18001:2007 is a framework to identify, control and decrease the risks associated with health and safety within the workplace. Implementing the standard sends a clear message to PTIL and PTST stakeholders that they view employees’ health and safety as a priority within the organisations. It is important to ensure that a rigorous health and safety policy is in place to protect employees against possible occupational risks and reduces the likelihood of accidents in the workplace. By planning ahead, PTIL and PTST can also identify health and safety risks and conform to health and safety legislations.
Environmental ISO 14001:2015 is a systematic framework to manage the immediate and long term environmental impacts of an organisation’s products, services and processes. By completing ISO 14001 certification, PTIL and PTST can assure stakeholders that their environmental management system meets international industry specific environmental standards.
Mr G Somu, President Director of PTST commented: “We are proud of this new achievement. We are committed to providing utmost satisfaction to our customers and meet the national and international standard requirements for Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems.”
Mr Yong Teck Yee, President Director of PTIL added: “It took us 3 years to set up and streamline the integrated management system and another 6 months for the audit certification. It was not easy and we have achieved this through the continuous efforts and hard work from our team. We will work on maintaining and improving the system.”

Portek Expands Its Terminal Operations Portfolio Through The Acquisition Of PT. Dwipahasta Utamaduta In Jakarta, Indonesia
26th December 2017
Portek International has expanded its portfolio of container and multipurpose terminals with the acquisition of 67% of the share capital of PT. Dwipahasta Utamaduta (“DHU”). DHU is currently one of the largest domestic port operators by volume of cargo in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, handling more than 330,000 TEUs annually. The company currently serves Tanto Intim Line, one of the largest domestic shipping lines in Indonesia operating more than 50 container vessels domestically.
Together with PT. Transindo Interdwipantara which acquired 33% shares of DHU, Portek will now fully control the management and operation of the company.
DHU will be Portek’s biggest venture into the domestic terminal operations in Indonesia, a fast-growing market that is expected to grow by 6% annually. DHU currently owns a concession to operate Terminal 110 – 113 in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta with more than 600 metres quay, capable of serving 600,000 TEUs annually. With the stevedoring license and the 20-year concession held by DHU, Portek aims to transform the existing conventional operation into a fully modern and model domestic player in Jakarta.
The closing ceremony held on 12th December 2017 was attended by Transindo, Portek representatives and the previous shareholders as well as special guests such as Mr. Motoaki Uno, Managing Officer of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and President Director & Chief Executive Officer of PT Mitsui Indonesia, who remarked in his opening speech, “Mitsui with its long history in Indonesia is confident that DHU will contribute to the improvement not only to Mitsui, but also on the national level.”
The signing of the deed on that day and the appointment of the new management mark Portek’s new foray into the business.
Mr Tsuyoshi Kamihira, CEO of Portek commented, “We are pleased to expand Portek’s terminal operations portfolio with the addition of DHU. We are confident that DHU, one of the largest domestic terminal operators in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta will become an integral part of Portek. We have brought in new management who will bring their international port operations and management expertise to the company. DHU will also tap onto Portek’s engineering expertise by collaborating with PT. Indo Log, an engineering subsidiary of Portek in Indonesia, to operate and maintain the modern equipment in the terminal.”

Portek Subsidiaries Cleared OHSAS 18001:2007 and bizSAFE Star Recertification
10th July 2017
Singapore – Portek Systems & Equipment Pte Ltd (“PSE”) and PT Portek Indonesia (“PTPI”) are proud to announce that they have successfully cleared the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 recertification audit with no non-conformance. The organisations had obtained their first OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications in 2014 and the certificates were valid for 3 years. They have achieved OHSAS 18001:2007 recertification this year in recognition of the organisations’ Health & Safety Management Systems which comply with OHSAS 18001:2007, an international occupational health and safety management system.
The scope of activities covered by the certificate awarded to PSE is servicing, retrofitting, refurbishment and spare parts sales of container handling equipment. The scope of activities covered by the certificate awarded to PTPI is maintenance service of heavy port equipment.
The implementation of a good Health & Safety policy is vital for any company regardless of its size or sector. One of the most important benefits of implementing HSEMS according to the OHSAS 18001 requirements is that the company has a framework for identifying, monitoring, and complying with all the varied legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements that apply with the company processes. The system aids in maintaining compliance, which can not only help to prevent employee injury, but also prevents costly fines for non-compliance.
In addition, PSE has successfully cleared the bizSafe Star recertification audit conducted from 9th to 15th June 2017, with no non-conformance. The bizSAFE programme is administered by the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC) Singapore to assist companies to build up their WSH capabilities so that they can achieve superior improvements in safety and health standards at the workplace. bizSAFE Star is the highest bizSAFE level attainable in a progressive 5-step programme.
“Our subsidiaries’ achievements demonstrate our ability and commitment to meet the highest standards of international safety and occupational health management. Our employees are our greatest asset. A safe workplace is an essential factor in motivating and retaining employees. We will work on further improving our safety culture and aim to achieve zero accidents and incidents to keep all Portek Group staff safe at work.” said Tsuyoshi Kamihira, CEO of Portek International.
