Crane Modification

Over the years, ship sizes have gone from Panamax dimensions to Post-Panamax, and Large Post-Panamax to Super-Post Panamax, with the latest size at 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). As a result, ports need to be deepened, yard areas need to be fully utilised, and cranes require upsizing to be able to service such ships.

Portek can modernize and modify cranes by undertaking the following:

  • Height raises and boom extensions to extend Panamax Quayside Gantry Cranes (QCs) to Post-Panamax dimensions and from Post-Panamax to Large Post Post-Panamax dimensions.
  • Height increase of Rubber-tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs) or Rail-mounted Gantry Cranes (RMG) from 4 high to 5 high, and from 5 high to 6 high.
