Major Structural Modifications for QC in Penang Port, Malaysia 2004
Portek’s full spectrum of engineering expertise is best exemplified in this project. Starting from structural modifications of a Panamax QC to Post-Panamax dimensions, the drive and PLCs were simultaneously modernised, whilst the QC was refurbished. The QC was then mobilised from the Butterworth Deep Water Wharves (BWCT) to the North Butterworth Container Terminal Wharves (NBCT). The project took 6 months to complete.

The following structural modifications were performed:
Height increase by 5m
Boom extension by 4.5m
Span change from 15.24m to 17m
